Environmental Monitoring

Data logging that shows how a building actually behaves over time.

A single inspection is a snapshot. Buildings live through seasons, and many moisture problems only make sense when you watch them over time.

What we monitor

We install data loggers to record temperature and relative humidity in rooms, voids and sub-floor spaces, and probes to track conditions and moisture within masonry and timber. Monitoring can run for weeks or years depending on the question being asked.

What it tells you

Monitoring distinguishes condensation from penetration, shows whether a wall is drying or still being fed with moisture, reveals how heating and ventilation regimes affect the fabric, and, critically, demonstrates whether remedial works have actually worked.

Monitoring in practice

At Chepstow Castle, four years of environmental monitoring tracked the Earl's Chamber from an average of 5°C and 96% relative humidity to approximately 20–21°C and 40–52% following remedial works: evidence that the fabric was drying and the condensation risk had substantially reduced. That is the value of monitoring: conclusions based on data rather than assumption.
